Munsyari: A Hidden gem in Himalayas

Last month, I had the chance to visit Munsiyari with my family. Nestled in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, it is often called the 'Little Kashmir' of the state. After this trip, I can say that the title fits perfectly. Everything about it the journey, the stay, the food, and the activities made it a truly unforgettable experience.
We traveled by car, driving through winding mountain roads that had breathtaking views at every turn. The journey was long, but the changing landscapes, from dense forests to snow-covered peaks, made it worth every mile. By the time we reached Munsiyari, we were already in love with the place.
Instead of booking a hotel, we chose to stay in a homestay. That turned out to be a great decision because the warmth of our hosts made us feel at home. Waking up to a view of snow-capped mountains and sipping on hot tea in the chilly weather felt absolutely magical.
During our stay, we visited all the famous places like Khalia Top, Birthi Falls, and the stunning Panchachuli Peaks. But what made the trip even more special was exploring some lesser-known, untouched spots. Walking on snow-covered trails, where the only sound was the crunching of our footsteps, felt like stepping into a dream.
Being a Pahadi myself, the food in Munsiyari felt extra special. The simple, authentic flavors reminded me of home. From Bhatt ki Churkani to Mandua roti and fresh organic vegetables, every meal was comforting. Eating delicious, hot food in the cold weather made the experience even better.
One of the most exciting parts of our trip was ice skating. It was my first time trying it, and though I wasn’t great at it, I had so much fun. Slipping, getting back up, and laughing with my family made it a memory I’ll never forget. The snowfall around us added to the magic, making everything feel straight out of a movie.
The cold weather and snow made the trip even more special. Watching snowflakes slowly fall from the sky and cover everything in white was simply mesmerizing. It was peaceful and beautiful, the kind of moment that makes you stop and appreciate nature’s wonders.
Every trip I take holds a special place in my heart, and Munsiyari was no different. Unlike Mukteshwar or Mumbai, this trip was all about experiencing the untouched beauty of the mountains, the kindness of the locals, and the thrill of winter activities. Each journey brings something new, and this one left me with memories of snowy landscapes, warm hospitality, and fun-filled family moments. Munsiyari was truly an experience of a lifetime.
